Today Mitch Wagner said he thought that Second Life was inconvenient, has gone as far as it can go, and is the wrong platform. He prefers Facebook and Twitter. As much as I respect Mitch’s opinion, I disagree.

The 6th annual Second Life Community Convention (SLCC) took place in Boston this past weekend. It was an exciting weekend packed full of Linden Lab announcements as well as a plethora of resident-led discussions and presentations.

Sand Castle Studios, has been given the honor of hosting a panel discussion on Creating Educational, Immersive Experiences and Simulations, along with award-winning, machinimagrapher, Draxtor Despres.
Today, in a much anticipated announcement, Linden Lab launched the Beta version of their new Second Life viewer. It will undoubtedly completely revolutionize the way we view and use Second Life.

Linden Lab Vice President of Customer Relations Cyn Linden has a very lengthy, but clear and concise post on the company’s official blog detailing their new “Content Management Roadmap” for Second Life content and its creators.
Cyn says that Linden Lab is “committed to empowering content creators to better manage and control their content.” She presented a multi-faceted plan help manage content on several levels.

Playboy’s Q1 2008 earnings conference call, Playboy Enterprises chairman and CEO Christie Hefner (the daughter of Hugh Hefner) discussed the company’s future plans and in doing so hinted that Playboy may be developing its own virtual world in the future.

Fast forward to current time… while we knew markin’s concept was innovative, we never could have predicted the amount of attention it would receive and the way it would change education as we know it in Second Life. NESIM has been recognized by the Chronicle of Higher Education, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Nurseweek Magazine, and many other publications and blogs. John Miller himself has become somewhat of a celebrity for his work using NESIM. Other organizations have been inspired and are beginning to work on similar projects.
